The Napa and Mendocino County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team in coordination with the California Office of Emergency Services and the California National Guard ("CNG"), invite you to attend a Helicopter Awareness Training. This training provides a venue for the CNG and other agencies to educate SAR members throughout the state of California on its operational capabilities. The training course will include:

Please complete this form to apply for a possible position in the training. Sign up due by May 4, 2017 You must be a full team member with no field restrictions, have your DSW completed with CalOES and be approved by your individual agency command staff to attend the training. After filling out the form below it could take up to 1 week for a confirmation of receipt. Your application will then be reviewed by the host agencies and you will be notified if accepted via email no later than 30 days prior to the event. Note that no guarantee of the training or attendance for an individual or team will be given by any of the host agencies. Ground Operations On Friday Group 1 of the attendee’s accepted to the training will meet at Lake Mendocino at the main campground designated on site. Upon arrival each agency will setup camp in the designated camping areas. Friday night at 6pm there will be a 2 hour presentation on the introduction to the Helo Awareness, instructions on the Mutual Aid Guidelines for Extended Searches, Mountainous, helicopter safety and an overall review of historical SAR rescues. We will also outline the schedule for the proceeding day.
Saturday’s training will begin at 0700. The air crews will conduct the trainings’ safety briefing, followed by an informational session at each aircraft type about the capabilities and resources available on that particular helicopter. The instructional can include topics such as helicopter safety for the SAR volunteer, helicopter operational procedures, helicopter air to ground communications, medical handoff procedures, hoist operation procedure, helicopter awareness and victim preparation.
Upon the completion of the safety briefing and informational session we will begin... AM exercises: The AM exercise is divided into two modules; cold loading and unloading of personnel and litter and working in the environment produced by helicopters.
PM segment: Activities will include three modules; ATV transport (loading and unloading), K-9 transport (loading and unloading) and hot loading and unloading personnel and litter in different environments (while maintaining proper communication air to ground and ground to ground.) Upon completion of the debrief the helicopter will disembark the LZ and the training will be completed for Group 1. Aerial Searching On Saturday Group 2 of the attendee’s accepted to the training will meet at Lake Mendocino at the main campground designated on site. Upon arrival, each agency will setup camp in the designated camping areas. Saturday night at 7 pm there will be a 2-hour presentation on the introduction to the Helo Awareness, instructions on the Mutual Aid Guidelines for Extended Searches, Mountainous, helicopter safety and an overall review of historical SAR rescues. We will also outline the schedule for the proceeding day.

The instructional can include topics such as helicopter safety for the SAR volunteer, helicopter operational procedures, helicopter air to ground communications, searching with the camera, visual ground searching, hoist operation procedure, helicopter awareness and victim preparation.
Upon the completion of the safety briefing and informational session, we will begin the... AM exercises. There will be three groups of 6 people. The AM exercise will be divided into three modules; seeing how the camera works and data downlink works along with the different types of imagery available, planning helicopter search and working with helicopter crews to execute helicopter search.
PM segment activities will include three modules; Search scenario and development of helicopter search plan, executing search plan and managing extraction for the air. The group of 6 people will be divided into two (3 and 3) each having the opportunity to conduct aerial searching and managing ground teams.
Upon completion of the debrief the helicopter will disembark the LZ, and the training will be completed for Group 2. |
