CalESAR Medical Training Requirements

The Training Committee, Medical Committee and Board of Directors have outlined a new protocol for CalESAR Medical Training.

It has become increasingly difficult for us to independently contract medical instructors that can deliver this training to CalESAR at prices competitive with those offered by outside agencies. We want everyone to feel confident that they are developing the right rescue skills, but we don't want people to feel like they need to pay an arm and a leg for it. So, we have selected three reputable organizations that each provide training in Nationally recognized medical protocols for each status level of CalESAR.

Effective immediately, each member will be solely responsible for completing his/her own medical training as outlined below.

To reach and maintain Associate status and Trained status, each member must have attended at least the following medical training and renew the certification as it expires:

  • Basic 1st Aid
    • American Red Cross: Standard First Aid courses
    • American Heart Association: Heartsaver First Aid
    • ASHI: Basic 1st Aid for First Aid Providers
  • CPR
    • American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
    • American Heart Association: BLS Healthcare Provider
    • ASHI: CPR Pro for the Professional Rescuer

To reach and maintain Certified status, each member must have attended at least the following medical training and renew the certification as it expires:

  • Advanced 1st Aid
    • American Red Cross: Emergency Response
    • American Heart Association: First Responder
    • ASHI: First Responder

These requirements are maintained by the medical director and will be modified as dictated by OES.
